Hines built its first high-rise office building in 1971, One Shell Plaza. The 50-story tower, which remains the tallest lightweight concrete structure in the world, set a precedent for the countless engineering and architectural feats that formed the Hines Standard and began a tradition of enhancing the skylines, built environment, commerce and cultures of hundreds of cities located across North America, South America, Europe and Asia. Hines’ Midwest development expertise began in the early 1980’s with the development of Chicago’s Three First National Plaza. The Midwest development team has successfully developed 24 projects in 14 cities across the region and been recognized by its peers by being awarded the highly prestigious ULI Development Award for Excellence for the finest development in all of North America two times.
